Cycling / Tour / Bitossi / Curiosity Rare red scarf awarded - Lot 178
Cycling / Tour / Bitossi / Curiosity Rare red scarf awarded to the winner of the 1968 Tour Points Classification, Italian Franco Bitossi. Until now, the winner of this classification wore a green jersey, but in this exceptional year 1968, marked by the events of May, the jersey changed to red, and this silk sash with its golden bangs bearing the embroidered words of the sponsors of the "SIC Soda Tour de France 1968" prize, distinguished the winner of this classification for ceremonies. This red sash, which existed only once, went to a 27-year-old champion who had won two stages in Nantes and Aurillac. For his second and last Tour, France Bitossi finished 8th overall, and also became overall winner. This is a historic piece in the saga of the Grande Boucle, in more ways than one. Franco is framed by Janssen in 1967, and Merckx in 1969.
