QUEVEDO VILLEGAS (Francisco de): Poësias de Don Francisco de Quevedo Villegas, Cavallero de l'ordre de Santiago, seigneur de la villa de la Torre de Juan-Abad, Brussels: De la Emprenta de Francisco Foppens, impresor et mercader de libros, 1661. 3 volumes in-4 contemporary calf, spine ribbed and decorated (worn bindings, freckles and stains). [2 f.], 488 p., [10 ff.], 93 p. numerous pagination errors with no missing parts. One portrait and two plates of coats of arms. This edition of Quevedo's poems, by Francisco Foppens (François Foppens, 1637-1685), was the first printed outside Spain and one of the most prized by bibliophiles. Prior to this complete edition of the poems, Foppens had published two volumes of the prose works. Although in the next edition, by the same printer (1670), the poems were added to the prose works as a third part, this is not the case in this first edition. As the great scholar Astrana Marín maintains, this collection of poems is complementary but independent, with no indication of volume or part.
