Boxing / Carpentier / Aluminium / Ruin / Curiosity - Lot 9
Boxing / Carpentier / Aluminium / Ruin / Curiosity Aluminium dish, boxing glove cartridge and "France Aluminium" on the underside 40 x 22 cm This large oval dish represents a page in sports history. In 1921, Liévin champion Georges Carpentier (1893-1975), world middleweight champion (the first Frenchman to be crowned, in 1920), was at the height of his fame. A far-sighted entrepreneur, who was launching a cookware range in the revolutionary metal aluminum, convinced him to invest in the business. The advertisements in "L'Auto" (cf: 7.02.1921) show the champion's investment: "Batterie de cuisine, 23 pièces en alu, 200 francs, Georges Carpentier". But it doesn't work. The champion is partly ruined. This fish dish remains as a sad testimony to his misadventure. With the Carpentier label on the back, worth a certificate.
