Boxing / Ali / Déro / Cangioni / Cartoon - Lot 25
Boxing / Ali / Déro / Cangioni / Cartoon Robert Décremps, alias DÉRO (1920-2000) Two Muhammad "Clay-Ali" caricatures India ink on paper, signed, titled 50 x 39 cm Original illustrations for Pierre Cangioni's "La Fabuleuse Histoire de la Boxe" (1977). Portrait of champion Cassius Clay aka Muhamad Ali (from 1964), in the style of Arcimboldo. Ali (1942-2016) was a revolutionary boxer, talkative and agile, multiple world heavyweight champion. Some have humorously said, "He's paying Ali", but Déro loved champions too much for there to be an ounce of malice in his "charge". The complicated language of his fists produced the miracles we all know. Déro, who was Olympic middleweight champion in Rome in 1960, was also an Olympic torchbearer at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
