Boxing / Déro / Carlos Monzon / El Macho / Jean-Claude Boutt - Lot 26
Boxing / Déro / Carlos Monzon / El Macho / Jean-Claude Bouttier / Laval Robert Décremps, alias DÉRO (1920-2000) Two caricatures: Carlos Monzon and Jean-Claude Bouttier India ink on paper, signed, titled 50 x 39 cm Original illustrations for Pierre Cangioni's "La Fabuleuse Histoire de la Boxe" (1977). Monzon, the Argentine champion, takes on the local color, as a gaucho. In the course of an eventful career and life, he outboxed more than one opponent: world champion in the middleweight division between 1970 and 77. He was a lightning puncher, winning 59 of his 87 bouts by knockout. The lavallois champion climbs an Eiffel Tower-Jean Bretonnel (his manager) to try and land a moon named Carlos Monzon. This was in 1972-73, in Colombes and then at Roland-Garros. A fine champion of means, who had restored color to the French noble art (72 fights, 64 wins), with European titles in 1971 and 74. Proclaimed "Champion of Champions" by "L'Equipe" in 1971
