Cycling / Adventure / Africa - Lot 40
Cycling / Adventure / Africa "Les voyages impossibles, La traversée de l'Afrique en vélocipède", by Auguste Villiers, ill. by Tellier, 1892 Ed. L. Boulanger, hardback, 572 p., 31x22 Villiers (1834-1900), like Bertot, was a Norman phenomenon; this military man, who later became a bookseller, explored Africa on a velocipede. It's only a short step from there to seeing him as the precursor of the World Cycling Championships, which have just taken place in Rwanda. The double illustration at the beginning of the book is a good reason to do so.
