Cycling / Gino Bartali / Fausto Coppi / Déro - Lot 96
Cycling / Gino Bartali / Fausto Coppi / Déro Robert Décremps, alias DÉRO (1920-2000) Two caricatures: Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi India ink on paper, signed, captioned 31 x 31.5 cm - 29 x 21 cm Original illustrations for "La Fabuleuse histoire du Cyclisme" by Pierre Chany (1922-1996), published by Odil in 1975. The pious Gino (1914-2000) wore blessed medals, visited the pope and bishops, prayed in Paris or Lourdes, all the while smoking. With a delighted look on his face, and dressed in his bure robes, he would pray his collars and rosary. Fausto (1919-1960), standing as a heron, towers over his flight instrument. It was with this tool that he became a living legend (1919-1960). He won it all, flew over it, achieved the first Giro-Tour double, and inspired the finest literature, starting with Pierre Chany's "Arriva, Coppi" (1960).
