Rugby / Roques / Danos / Mias / Déro / Cahors / Béziers / Ma - Lot 171
Rugby / Roques / Danos / Mias / Déro / Cahors / Béziers / Mazamet Robert Décremps, alias DÉRO (1920-2000) 3 caricatures: Alfred Roques alias "Pépé du Quercy", Pierre Danos and Lucien Mias India ink on paper, signed, captioned 50 x 37 cm 3 original illustrations for "La Fabuleuse histoire du Rugby" by Henri Garcia, published by Odil in 1973. Alfred Roques (1925-2004) was 33 years old when he won his first cap for the French national team in 1958. 29 more followed until 1963. Despite his old age, Alfred was a force of nature. A pillar of duty, he was one of the architects of the victorious 1958 tour of South Africa. International scrum-half Pierrot Danos (1929-2023) opened with fluidity and class. He played alongside Lucien Mias and Alfred Roques in South Africa in 1958. French champion with Béziers in 1961, he was a formidable drop passer and an impossible goalscorer. Lucien Mias (1930-2024), shrouded, helmeted, playing the bugle, stethoscope askew. He revolutionized rugby, created the contact half-turn, forged the French team, and achieved the feat of beating the Boks in 1958. He was a leader of men who started out as a schoolteacher before becoming a doctor. A lord of rugby who became a beacon for Ovalie.
