Tennis / Fred Perry / Big Bill Tilden / Déro / USA / Great B - Lot 191
Tennis / Fred Perry / Big Bill Tilden / Déro / USA / Great Britain Robert Décremps, alias DÉRO (1920-2000) Two caricatures: Big Bill Tilden and Fred Perry India ink on paper, signed, captioned 50 x 39 cm Original illustrations for "La Fabuleuse histoire du tennis" by Christian Quidet, published by Odil, 1977 (preface by A. Blondin). Big Bill Tilden (1893-1953), perhaps the first grandjoueur. For 20 years, from 1910 to 1930, he ruled the amateurs and then the pros. When you say Bill, you say Buffalo Bill, and Déro didn't pass up the opportunity to transform the giant into a cowboy, with rackets replacing colts. World No.1 from 1920 to 1925, he won 14 Grand Slam tournaments and the French Open in 1927 and 1930. The emblematic Fred Perry (1909-1995), even elegantly won 4 Davis Cup titles with Great Britain (1933-36), as well as the world table tennis title in 1929. Déro's creation plays on Fred Perry's elegance and allure, a reference to the creation of his sportswear brand in 1940.
