Tennis / Bernard / Petra / Drobny / Déro / Nord / Olympic Ga - Lot 193
Tennis / Bernard / Petra / Drobny / Déro / Nord / Olympic Games Robert Décremps, alias DÉRO (1920-2000) 3 caricatures: Marcel Bernard, Yvon Pétra and Jaroslav Drobny India ink on paper, signed, captioned 50 x 39 cm Three original illustrations for "La Fabuleuse histoire du tennis" by Christian Quidet, Editions Odil, 1977 (preface by A. Blondin). Marcel Bernard (1914-1994) triumphed at the French Open in 1946, beating Drobny. He was instrumental in reviving the yellow ball in France, a pillar of our Davis Cup team and President of the French Tennis Federation (he had the honor of presenting the Cup to Noah in 1983). On the lookout for a butterfly ball, Marcel looks a bit like "Mon oncle". Yvon Pétra (1916-1984): one of the finest representations of the French double-meter player who won Wimbledon in 1946. Déro depicts one of the greatest French players of all time in a slightly stooped helmet, with an advantageous hairline. Déro, master caricaturist of "L'Equipe", captures the Czech player Drobny (1921-2001) in two strokes of the racket, from which he makes a pair of glasses. This player won the French Open in 1951 and 52, as well as Wimbledon in 54. One of the first champions to wear glasses. He was also world ice hockey champion in 1947, and Olympic vice-champion in 1948. This eclectic left-hander was in turn Czech, Swiss, Egyptian and finally English.
