NASA. LARGE FORMAT. This photograph shows an impressive bubbling cauldron of star births. The image was taken using coded infrared light, so that wavelengths invisible to the naked eye can be perceived by the human eye. The brightest yellow-white regions are hot star-forming centers. Green shows tendrils of dust, and red indicates other types of dust that may be cooler, in addition to ionized gas from nearby massive stars. Blue represents light at 3.6 microns: light at 4.5 microns is blue-green; light at 8.0 microns is green; and light at 24 microns is red. 2012. Vintage chromogenic print.
