I am not angry about my delay, since it was caused by the fact that the PETITE CHARLOTTE was not ready for me to dare set sail, and because I did not want to leave her rudder astern, having marked her bottom cracks, I was forced to ground her in the Ile d'Aix canal to fit her with other fittings... I am very pleased with the copy of the letter you sent me from Mr. Maréchal de CASTRIES, which authorizes me to reserve for myself the crews I may need... I am leaving very happy, and it remains for me to thank you for your kind memory of yesterday, when you drank to our health with all the officers...".
