ARMÉE D'AFRIQUE. 1836. ORAN (Algeria) - Letter A.S. from Lie - Lot 578
ARMÉE D'AFRIQUE. 1836. ORAN (Algeria) - Letter A.S. from Lieutenant-Colonel De BEAUFORT written from ORAN, August 10, 1836. 2pp in folio: "Mon Général, La Garde de l'Etendard et de la caisse du Régiment nécessite un poste sur la place de l'hôpital. The post consists of a Maréchal des logis, a Brigadier and 6 men who, because of the distance from the mosque, come with their horses. This measure is motivated by the need to plant for all our service relations, of which there are many. As the localities do not allow the horses to be housed near the guardhouse...these horses have been placed at the Colysée under the supervision of two stable guards. Last night...4 pistols were reported missing, and one of the stable guards was punished. The place was immediately notified of this crime so that the police could track down the culprits..."
