DEATH OF LOUIS XIV, Sept. 1, 1715. "Copie de la Lettre du Marquis de CASTRIES à VERSAILLES le 26. 7. 1715" (September 26, 1715). Manuscript of 4 folio pages. Details of the King's death and of the preceding and following days: "Le Roy mourut hier matin à 8 heures et un quart. On August 24, he asked for confession, and on the 25th day of Saint Louis, he dined in public in his room and wanted the oboes, trumpets and violins to play as usual. During dinner, his illness worsened in the evening, and the doctors said they considered it advisable for the King to receive the Blessed Sacrament. His Majesty took no trouble at all, and even intended to hear mass at midnight and take communion. It was therefore around 2 o'clock in the evening that she received the viaticum and extreme unction. On Monday morning, the King worked on many things. He wrote himself.
