Byzantine gold, pearl and amethyst ring - Lot 4
Byzantine gold, pearl and amethyst ring 6th or 7th century A.D. ring size 11. Width: 2.2 cm. The outside of the ring is adorned with a filigree of smooth twisted wires; the sides of the spool-shaped bezel are surrounded by a string of pearls strung on wire and held in place by small loops; bands of beaded wire are above and below; the bezel is set with a circular cabochon amethyst. Provenance: Christie's sale # 1735, December 7, 2006, lot 319.
