The Bible in Swedish (Biblia Thet är All then Helgha Scrifft på Swensko), 1541. Uppsala,G. Richolff, 1541. Small folio (30 cm). 730 pages instead of 762 pages. Uncollated copy. Numerous illustrations in the text. Of these, seven are originals by Lucas Cranach the Elder and four by his pupils, three by Georg Lemberger, the others being copies by Cranach, Albrecht Altdorfer, monogrammers AW and DS. Usual wear to paper. Beautiful modern leather binding. The Gustav Vasa Bible (Gustav Vasas bibel) is the common name for this 1st Bible in Swedish, translated from Martin Luther's German Bible. Its principal author was Laurentius Petri, Sweden's first Lutheran archbishop.
