Ottoman Bible, 1827 First edition of the complete text of the Bible in Osmanli. Published by J.-D. Kieffer, Paris, Imprimerie royale, 1827. In-4°, 996 pages (Old Testament) + 326 pages (New Testament). Bound in stamped calf, hinges split, binding very worn, but internally a pleasant, clean copy. Hot-marked in gold letters Turkish Bible on title-piece. Kieffer has thoroughly revised Ali Bey's translation of the Bible, comparing it with the original texts and the standard English, French and German versions.
