Manuscript in French on paper, written in cursive in brown ink, richly illustrated with naive zoomorphic and floral initials in color, as well as similarly executed borders, cartouches and drawings. 40.7 x 25 cm; 164 pages. Bound in contemporary vellum, with restorations, stains and arithmetical calculations in ink on the boards; visible damp stains in the gutters, occasional stains and soiling, a few small holes through the open leaves and marginal worms in the second half of the volume not affecting the text. Jean-Baptiste Féraud was a monk of the Abbey of Cluny, who handled the accounts of the Cistercian abbey's farmers and receivers. The Saint-Louis hermitage was located in the Fontainebleau forest.
