Autograph of Geronimo - Lot 55
Autograph of Geronimo Extremely rare autograph of Geronimo affixed to a magazine clipping depicting the warrior. Geronimo (1829-1909), an Apache chief, led attacks against white settlers encroaching on tribal and traditionally sacred lands. After numerous campaigns and successfully evading American military attempts to capture him, the great chief was finally taken prisoner by George Crook. Geronimo escaped briefly, but was recaptured by Nelson Miles. He officially surrendered to General Miles on September 4, 1886 in Skeleton Canyon, Arizona. The rest of his life was spent under surveillance, his movements strictly controlled by the army.
