17th-century liturgical reading stand - Lot 78
17th-century liturgical reading stand X-shaped wooden stand used to support holy books during recitations. Designed to fold flat and be stored away when not in use, these wooden lecterns are commonly used in the Muslim and Christian East to support and respect holy books by keeping them elevated. Inscription in Armenian on one side: ՅԻՇՏԿ Է ՄՈԼՐՏԻ ՈՐԴԻ ՅՕՀԱՆՆԻ Ի ԴՌՆ ՍԲ ՍԱՐԳԻՍ ՈՐ Ի ՊԶ ԹՎԻՆ ՌՄ (in memory of Yohan son of Murad at the door of (the church) Saint Sarkis which is in P.. in the year 1200/1751). 83 x 83 cm.
