Byzantine-style silver crucifix
On the main face, around Christ, the Evangelists in multi-lobed medallions, themselves surrounded by metal circles into which cabochons were originally inserted. One medallion is missing.
On the back, around the standing Virgin Mary, three (out of four) medallions perhaps represent the Holy Family.
This upper part dates from the 18th century, or even earlier, and is more Byzantine (Russian or Georgian) than Armenian.
It is attached to a tapered silver-nickel sleeve typical of Van (19th century), which bears an Armenian inscription dated 1887.
