Armenian dictionary, 1706 - Lot 167
Armenian dictionary, 1706 Manuscript on paper by an anonymous scribe in 1706. 228 folios written in notragir script. 11 x 5.4 x 4 cm. The manuscript has undergone recent restoration and is in very good condition, with the exception of 3 missing pages between folios 33 and 34. Binding restored with original boards preserved. This document constitutes an Armenian dictionary that includes words from a number of old explanatory dictionaries and words selected from various texts of medieval Armenian and ancient Greek (Homer) literature. Also included are dialect words and proper nouns. Many of these words no longer appear in modern Armenian dictionaries. A short colophon of the book at the bottom of folio 1r: Սկիզբն եղև գրուս ի թուին ՌՃԾԵ (I began writing this in the year 1706). Some pages have occasional graffiti, in the margins such as those on folios 171v, 185v, 217v. A prayer is added at the end of the dictionary on folio 228v.
