Patriarchal bull of blessing known as Kondak (Կոնդակ) Printed, dated 1866, addressed to Armenian visitors making a donation to the Convent of St. James in Jerusalem. The blessing is given by the Patriarch of Jerusalem Éssaï IV Garabédian de Talas (1864-1885) (handwritten in red ink) Headed with the seal of the monastery in red ink with the inscription ԿՆԻՔՍ ՍՈՒՐԲ ԷՐՈՒՍԱՂԵՄԻ ԱԹՈՌՈՅՍ ՍՐԲՈՑ ՅԱԿՈԲԵԱՆՑ ԵՒ ՍՈՒՐԲ ՅԱՐՈՒԹԵԱՆ ՉԷ ՊԱՐՏԻՑ ԱՅԼ (Seal of the sacred throne of Jerusalem, of the Holy Jacobians and the Holy Resurrection - not for obligation, but for blessing). The kondak features an ornamental border and color-enhanced initial lettrine in the form of an angel holding a cloth on which rests the decapitated head of St. James. Hole in paper and folds. Framed under glass. 39 x 24 cm.
