Edme MENTELLE, Géographe (Paris 1730 - 1815) Author of numerous works and an Atlas universelle - Autograph letter signed Monday, February 25, 1788, to his friend d'AUBAS Secrétaire du Garde-meuble du Roy. 4 pages in-8° : " Nous sommes, Monsieur et très obligant ami, au 25 de Février. This is very close to the 28th. Then I'll have to pay again. I am overwhelmed not to receive any news, although I could reasonably expect it. I am ashamed of the inconvenience I am causing you. But I am in great need of money, and on the other hand, orders will be needed to remove the foot of dear Mr MECKLEIN, who only has to have the iron upright that will support the Dauphins drilled, as the foot will have to come to the Palais-royal to model the Dauphins there. I beg you, my most precious friend, not to lose sight of this object. My wife is still inconvenienced and my address is still at the Palais-royal. I look forward to hearing from you. Monsieur et précieux ami." In 1786, for Louis XVI's eldest son, he and Jean TOBIE MERCKLEIN created a composite, or even "gigogne" globe, comprising three elements: its outer face represents the terrestrial globe; its inner face, the vault; inside, a ball depicts the depths of the seas. It is on display in the apartments of the Dauphin at the Château de Versailles. The letter talks about this Globe.
