Comte Gabriel CORTOIS de PRESSIGNY (Dijon/ Côte d'Or 1745 - 1823) Prelate, Bishop of SAINT-MALO 1785, Archbishop of BESANÇON (Doubs) in 1817, Peer of France, Charged in August 1814 by Louis XVIII to negotiate a new Concordat with the Holy See, Senator - Autograph letter signed from ROME on September 26, 1815. 1 page in-4°: "Sir, I have the honor of sending you a copy of a letter I received from GIVOURAS; But I believe it is useful for the Government of His Majesty the King of the Two Sicilies (Joachim MURAT) to be informed that the dispositions of all the English Commanders are not the same as those expressed by Rear-Admiral ROSLY (François Étienne de ROSILY-MESROS); I am informed in a way that I believe sure, that there is, in some English Commanders, an extreme benevolence for the person of MURAT. I have preferred, Sir, to give you this information, rather than direct it to NAPLES, because it may be unfortunate to give publicity to this mistrust; and you may have other means, than those of ordinary couriers, to inform your Court...".
