Charles DESNOYER (1806 - 1858) French actor, playwright and theater director. Stage Manager of the Gymnase and then the Comédie-Française from 1841 to 1847. In May 1852, he took over management of the Ambigu-Comique - 17 Autograph letters signed in-8°, from 1827 to 1855: "Monsieur. Since the reopening of the Odéon... I have been carefully avoided the slightest role... I am only allowed to show myself to the Public in Valère du Dépit Amoureux, and Damis de Tartuffe, his two most ungrateful roles in the Theatre..., which I play to avoid quarrels... Finally, no opportunity is neglected to hurt my feelings and destroy my hopes, which my debut at the Odéon had given me the right to conceive... ". (excerpt from an 1827 letter)
