Comte de FALLOUX Frédéric-Alfred, Minister of Public Instruc - Lot 439
Comte de FALLOUX Frédéric-Alfred, Minister of Public Instruction, drafted the school law. (Angers/ Maine-et-Loire 1811 - 1886) - PARIS June 23, 1848. Historic letter from Alfred de FALLOUX, to his wife Mme FALLOUX in Becherel (Ille-et-Vilaine), on the Revolution of 1848 and the riots in Paris "Les Journées de Juin" following the closure of the Ateliers Nationaux. General CAVAIGNAC's crackdown. "Mon Amour chérie, I've just won a Victory I've set my heart on. It is the definitive dissolution of the Ateliers (Nationaux), and God has allowed me to ask for it in the midst of the riot at the Ateliers itself. He could not have provided me with a better blessing than to give me this opportunity to do my duty, and what's more, humanely speaking, I can assure you that it doesn't put me at any risk whatsoever. The movement is a conspiracy against power and to seize power; it is by no means the emotion of the workers, and no one has thought of those who have dealt with them for good or ill. At the moment, there are a few gunshots at the Bastille. CAVAIGNAC shows great energy. BEDEAU is in command of the National Guard. The riot cries "Down with the Government, Long live the Assembly". I kiss you so that my letter goes away and reassures you, be very sure, dear love, that I am not hiding or disguising anything from you. ALFRED." 2 pages in-8°
