NASA. APOLLO 8 mission. Historic photograph of the first Ear - Lot 27
NASA. APOLLO 8 mission. Historic photograph of the first Earth survey observed from lunar orbit on December 24, 1968. This photograph represents the first great icon in the history of the human conquest of space, and is one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century, having been reproduced millions of times in the press and in publishing. However, it was published relatively infrequently by NASA, and the vast majority of vintage prints were destroyed after distribution, because once the enthusiasm for the first exploits of the conquest of space had passed, the public parted with vintage photographic prints, most of which ended up being thrown away like paper posters. In those days, photography wasn't a collector's item, and even less so was photography of space conquest events. Of the prints that have survived to the present day, most have faded or faded colors, but the one presented here has excellent colors, with a deep black for the void of space around the Earth, a beautiful vision of the lunar relief and an Earth where the blue remains present at the level of the globe's seas, covered by thick cloud cover. No folds, only slight traces in low-angled light on the usual surface for a vintage print. A rare and exceptional collector's copy.
Vintage chromogenic print on "A KODAK PAPER" fiber paper. 20.4 x 25.2 cm with margins.
