The Crown of Christ
Important, finely executed embroidery in polychrome silk threads on cardboard backing, depicting The Crown of Christ.
The rendering of faces, expressions and anatomical details most probably reflects the work of a professional religious workshop.
The composition was inspired by a famous oil on canvas by Rubens' disciple Antoon van Dyck, now in the Prado Museum, which was widely distributed in Europe.
Preserved under glass in its original octagonal wooden frame, decorated with a gold and black canvas frieze.
54 × 40 cm unframed
69 × 59 cm with frame
