Jean-Baptiste MALEZIEUX dit PATIOT (1818-1906) Portrait of soldier Louis BAUDOUIN in costume smoking a pipe Charcoal and white highlights on paper Signed lower left and dated 76 86 x 60 cm Inscribed on the left: "Louis Baudouin, husband of Catherine Baron, first cousin of my father, daughter of my aunt Marguerite Malézieux, sister of my grandfather" and on the lower right: "or Le vaillant Louis-des-ce-coq (???), one of the old debris of the great army shattered on the fields of Waterloo. Marguerite's son-in-law, known as Thiote Aguité, a good woman, a good aunt, whose memory I remember with fondness." Provenance: Inherited from generation to generation in the artist's family.
