Attributed to Daniel MIJTENS (circa 1590 - circa 1647) Portrait of the Duchess Eléonore de Bouillon (Brussels 1613 - Paris 1657) Canvas, fragment ? 41 x 33 cm In 1634, Eleonore de Bergh married Frédéric Maurice de la Tour d'Auvergne, becoming Duchess of Bouillon and Princess of Sedan. Her husband, a military man himself, was Turenne's brother. The Duchesse de Bouillon played an important political role, notably saving her husband's head after his participation in the Cinq-Mars plot. Both later played key roles in the Fronde.
