Aubusson Manufactory - Lot 163
Aubusson Manufactory
Landscape with hunting scene
Wool and silk tapestry
Late 17th-early 18th centuries
258 x 228 cm
(Holes and tears.)
The tapestry depicts a vast landscape with a hunting scene in the lower left-hand corner. The wooded landscape occupies all planes of the composition, with a central gap revealing a hamlet topped by a monumental bell tower. The hieratic character of the motifs is broken by the dynamic postures of the dog and the young boy, whose rich feathered headdress hints at his social status. The touches of red still present in the foliage bear witness to the beautiful original colors, whose diversity and nuances can be appreciated on the reverse. Flower and leaf garland border.
The tapestry shows some color. The borders are patched.
Worn silks, old restorations and reweaving.
It is reduced in height and width.
