CREIL AND MONTEREAU Set of 12 fine earthenware plates illustrating the Greek War of Independence. The philhellenic plates are entitled: "Miaulis taking a Turkish ship", "Marcos Botzaris in the Turkish camp", "The eve of an attack", "The women of Missolonghi at the breach", "Greek committee presided over by Mr de Chateaubriand", "Lord Byron at the head of a Greek detachment", "Mavrocordatos taking a fort defended by Turks", "Quete for the Greeks", "Pasha taken prisoner", "Turks taking Greek women and children" (accident), "Greeks receiving blessing in Missolonghi "x2. 19th century Diameter: 21.5 cm (Good condition, accident on one plate.) An identical model is reproduced in Amandery's L'indépendance grecque dans la faïence française du XIXè and an identical model is reproduced for an illustration in the Louvre.
