Cycling / Tour de France / Faber / Ravaud / Fascicule - Lot 59
Cycling / Tour de France / Faber / Ravaud / Fascicule "The Giant of the Road, François Faber, his beginnings, his career, his Tours de France, how he trains". Charles Ravaud, Librairie de L'Auto, 1909. Fascicle of 24 pages, 17 x 12 cm (good general condition, but booklet detached). Rare booklet published by L'Auto devoted to François Faber (1887-1915), the "Giant of Colombes". Completed on August 1, 1909, the day of his victorious finish in the Tour de France. Ravaud retraces the beginnings, career, Tours de France and training of this "complete athlete", capable of running on foot when his mechanics failed him. Winner of the 1909 Tour, François Faber scored a famous feat: 6 stage victories, including 5 in a row from Metz to Nice, at the end of a Tour so dominated that it helped push organizers to move the event into the high mountains in 1910. In 1909, Faber also won Paris-Bruxelles and Sedan-Bruxelles. Beneath its sober bottle-green cover, this editorial, sporting and memorial publication celebrates the panache, power and class of a rider who remains one of the great figures in the history of the Tour.
