Swimming / Prototypes / Louis de Corlieu 2 pairs of rubber fins: a pair of hand fins and a pair of foot fins, attributable to the production of Commandant DE CORLIEU. Baked" rubber, condition and conservation consistent with material and age.On each of the four palms, partially legible stamp: "Swimming-... / De Corlieu".Dim. hand fins: 28 x 20 cm; foot fins: 34 x 22 cm. Rare testimony to the beginnings of modern swimming and the research of Louis de Corlieu, French naval officer and inventor, pioneer of "swimming and rescue thrusters", direct ancestors of modern flippers. The literature recalls that he had his models patented and tested before their commercial release, notably on the American market from 1940 under the name of "swim-fins". Other prototype fins are kept at the Frédéric Dumas Museum (History of scuba diving). Enclosed: documentation, including press article and small advertising insert for swimming accessories "L. DE CORLIEU, 48 rue de Rivoli".
