Olympic Games / Antwerp 1920 Rare winner's gold medal from the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games Circular medal in gilded bronze, in its original case inscribed in gold letters "VII OLYMPIADE - ANTWERP 1920 - 1er PRIX". Obverse: a naked, antique-style victorious athlete holds the laurel wreath and palm, traditional emblems of triumph. In the background, the figure of Renommée blowing a trumpet. At leg level, the inscription "VII OLYMPIADE". At his feet, the signature of Josué DUPON (1864-1935). Reverse: composition centered on the Brabo fountain, accompanied by the coat of arms of the city, the cathedral and a palm motif surmounted by the inscription "ANVERS, MCMXX". Weight: 80 g Diam. 60 mm This medal was designed by Josué Dupon, a Belgian sculptor and medal-maker. The total print run of this medal, produced by the Coosemans workshops in Brussels, is said to have been 1,250, divided into 450 gold, 400 silver and 400 bronze medals. A similar example is kept at the Musée National du Sport in Nice.
