Charles Durand, born in 1766 in Alès (Gard) and died in 1854 in Nîmes, was a famous cook and gastronome. In 1830, he published Le cuisinier Durand, one of the first regional cookbooks in the history of French cuisine, which has been reprinted several times and constantly plagiarized.
