DODSLEY (R.): Fables designed for the instruction and entert - Lot 12
DODSLEY (R.): Fables designed for the instruction and entertainment of youth. Paris, Vergani, s.d. In-12 contemporary basane, smooth ornate spine (tiny tear at foot, slight foxing). 140 pages. Handwritten bookplate of Pierre Lemercier. "Fables designed for the instruction and entertainment of youth" is a collection of fables published by Robert Dodsley in the XVIIIᵉ century, in the tradition of moral and educational texts aimed at young readers. These fables have a dual purpose: To instruct: they convey moral lessons (honesty, prudence, hard work, respect for others). To entertain: they use short stories, often featuring animals or simple situations, to capture the attention of young people. In the spirit of the Enlightenment, Dodsley sought to make moral learning more enjoyable and accessible. The stories are generally short, clear and end with an explicit moral.
