CLAUSTRE (André de): Histoire de Thamas Kouli-Kan Roi de Per - Lot 160
CLAUSTRE (André de): Histoire de Thamas Kouli-Kan Roi de Perse. New edition. Briasson, 1743. In-12 contemporary marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated (headbands, corners and edges rubbed). Frontispiece depicting Kouli-Kan in front of a military camp (here colored at the time), Title , A folding map [Turkey, Persia, India]. Nader Shah ( 1688-1747), was Shah of Iran and founder of the Afcharid dynasty. He reigned from 1736 until his death. He is best known for his conquests. He was later nicknamed "the Iranian Napoleon". In 1739, he conquered Kabul, then Thamas-Kulî-Kan continued his conquests in India. Victorious over the Grand Mogul, he concluded a peace treaty with him. Inviting the prince to visit him, he had him arrested. On his orders, Delhi was plundered. Finally, he returned the throne of Indostan to Mahomed-Schah, in return for a tribute, reserving for himself the provinces bordering Persia, located west of the Indus. A show recounting his exploits was staged at the Tuileries in 1756.
