SWITZERLAND - CHEMINS de FER - Oblong in-8 album (17 x 27 cm) in period black percaline (defects in use). This album contains 4 lithographs and 22 original drawings depicting locomotives running various services to Switzerland (apart from a few exclusively French, English or American). Album dated January 1, 1858, with the name "Bettinger" in pencil. Examples include: -Locomotive assigned to passenger train service, La Meillerie, Chemin de fer de Lyon à Genève (watercolor and pencil); -Chemin de fer de Paris à Rouen: le Styx (graphite); -Chemin de fer d'Orléans: Machine Fender assigned to station service (graphite); Chemin de fer de l'Ouest - Suisse: locomotive assigned to freight train service. Le Vaud n°1 (pen and watercolor); -Chemin de fer de l'Ouest-Suisse: Locomotive assigned to passenger train service: l'Automne. (ink and watercolor); -Entrée du chemin de fer de Paris à Saint-Gemain (pen); -Chemin de fer de Lyon à Genève: l'Ornain (one engraving and one ink drawing); -Chemin de fer de Lyon à Genève: le Buet n°5 (graphite); -Chemin de fer de l'Ouest-Suisse: Chillon n°12 (built in Carsruhe). (ink and watercolor); -Chemin de fer du Central Suisse: Sense n°18 (ink); -Chemin de fer de Mulhouse, viaduct (ink on tracing paper); -Chemin de fer du "Great-Gestern": Hero (built at Swindon) ink; -American passenger engine (ink on tracing paper); etc. + a few miscellaneous sketches of locomotives or wagons. The album is completed by a few drawings or engravings of landscapes (8), mainly of Switzerland, and a few watercolors of boats (6). Provenance: John Malignon (handwritten ex-libris at the end of the album); Geneva coat-of-arms glued to the first back cover.
