Sarkis KATCHADOURIAN (Armenia, 1886-1947) Persian couple embracing (Persian fresco series), circa 1930. Gouache on paper. Signed lower right, located at Ala Kapy Palace (Isfahan). 94.5 x 67 cm. Framed under glass. Armenian painter born in Malatia, Turkey, and died in Paris. He is known for his reconstructions of Persian and Indian frescoes. He exhibited in the Near East, Europe and New York in the United States. Two exhibitions brought him to prominence: one in 1932 at the Musée Guimet, and the other in 1934 at Galerie G. Petit. Petit gallery. He exhibited reconstructions of Safavid frescoes, based on originals from the Palaces of Isfahan and the ruins of Ashraf. In 1939, at Bombay University, he exhibited reconstructions of Indian frescoes, which were acquired by the Musée Guimet, then deposited with the Galerie Nationale d'Arménie in 1971, following a cultural agreement between France and Armenia.
