France, circa 1820. - Lot 230
France, circa 1820.
A very elegant ovoid box, known as a “tombeau,” mounted with finely chased and gilded bronze. The body is made of ribbed, soapy “soap bubble” opaline. The top is shaped like a ball for needlework, covered in purple velvet. It rests on four clogs. Richly decorated with a molette pattern. It opens from the top and features a lock opening adorned with cornucopias. This piece is attributed to the Creusot factory due to the slightly bluish tint of the opaline crystal.
