PROVENCE. 1649. Extract from the Registres du Parlement de PROVENCE. " ...The Consuls Communities of DRAGUIGNAN (83), GORDES (84), EYRAGUES (13), others of this Province, gave request to the aforementioned Court, the ones to have a delay to pay their debts because of the soules (taxes) which they suffered by the people of war who remained in the Province against the orders of the Roy; the others for permission to borrow large sums to pay the extraordinary charges they have suffered since the Publication of the Peace due to the disorder of the said Gens de Guerre, a sum promised to avoid the pillage (pillaging), rape, ransom, murder, extortion and other excesses committed by the Gens de Guerres in the places where they make their lodgings...
