Thomas Philippe d'ALSACE de HÉNIN-LIÉTARD (Known as Cardinal d'Alsace) (1679 - 1759) Archbishop of the Diocese of Malines from 1715 to 1759. Cardinal in 1719 - Autograph letter signed "Thomas Cardinal d'Alsace" from MALINES on July 8, 1755, to Mr le Commandeur de BECKEVOIT in DIEST (Envelope enclosed, red wax seal at opening). 1 page (20.5 x 15 cm): "Assuming the privileges of the Order, I had understood that all that was required was a holy stone, which I no longer had. Moreover, I readily consent to you having mass said at your home every day without exception, provided that the Archbishop, pastor of Notre-Dame in Diest, deems the place decent and the ornaments suitable. And I honor you Sir more than anyone as a good servant."
