Antoinette Priscille Virginie de CLERMONT-TONNERRE, Vicomtes - Lot 154
Antoinette Priscille Virginie de CLERMONT-TONNERRE, Vicomtesse de LA FERTÉ-MEUNG (1735 - 1780). Autograph letter signed from Abbaye des Isles d'Auxerre (Yonne) August 5, 1761. 1 page ¼ in-4°. Antoinette de CLERMONT-TONNERRE addresses a supplication to the magistrate to obtain a prompt judgment: "Pity me Sir for finding myself in the hard necessity of pleading with my father whom I love and respect, and it is only after having exhausted these feelings with him that I have been forced to come to such an extremity, please abbreviate the inconveniences he causes me...". Attached is a handwritten memorandum for the Marquis de Clermont-Tonnerre, appealing a decision by the Bailliage de Troyes to lift his opposition to his daughter's marriage to the Sieur de la Ferté. 8 folio pages: "The Marquis de Clermont-Tonnerre has only one daughter, the only fruit of his marriage to the demoiselle de Pimelle (Virginie VIART de PIMELLES) who lost her life giving her to him, he cherished his wife tenderly and gave the daughter all the tenderness he had for the mother... The Marquis de Clermont has no fear of the guardianship account he owes his daughter; it has been ready for a long time, and she will receive it whenever she wishes... He cherishes his child despite her disobedience... the entire de Clermont-Tonnerre family repudiates this marriage".
