GARD. 1796. "Proclamation from Hilarion PUGET, Divisional General commanding the 9th Military Division, to the young men of the Requisition, to the Volunteers who have not joined their Battalions." "A decree by Government Commissioner FRÉRON, states: As of 25 Pluviôse (Year 4, February 14, 1796), military commanders will have their parents represent the certificates of Volunteers or Young Men of the Requisition, attesting to their arrival at their Battalions; failing which, they will garrison the said Parents to a greater or lesser extent." "At the head of the public force of this Department, I will be in charge of this decree. Young citizens..., you will no longer want to be cowardly Sybarites; you will increase the ranks of our brothers in arms; you will share the laurels with which they have covered themselves since the beginning of the Revolution, by fighting for the triumph of Liberty and the establishment of the Republic; you will finally contribute to forcing the enemy to ask us for peace..."
