LUXEMBOURG. Ennemond BONNARD (1756 - 1819) Major General, Co - Lot 444
LUXEMBOURG. Ennemond BONNARD (1756 - 1819) Major General, Commander in Luxembourg. Autograph letter signed to Major General MICAS, commanding the 29th Military Division of the Armée de Sambre et Meuse. At headquarters on 5 Germinal year 5 (25 March 1797). 3 pages in-4°: "I wish to inform you, My Dear Comrade, that as a result of the latest work which has just taken place for the General Officers, the Minister of War (Carnot) has addressed to the General-in-Chief of the army (Moreau), my letter of service from the Government to be employed with the troops making up the Army of Sambre et Meuse, but more particularly in Luxembourg, subordinate to the General-in-Chief. This is in substance the content of the aforementioned letter that General HOCHE sent me, with orders from him to come and take command of this place, without any mention of command of the Forestry Department (Luxembourg). General PONCET, who is still here and who is preparing to leave at any moment to retire to his home, has just sent me a letter in which you inform him of the imminent arrival of Major General DEMBARRÈRE, who is to take command of this place and the Department, by virtue of the Government's orders. I confess I can't understand this muddle. When General DEMBARRÈRE arrives here, I'll see if his letter of service is later than mine, and if so, I'll try to make up my mind, because, between you and me, I'm beginning to tire of the famous crusades I've been subjected to for a long time now. Salut et Fraternité..." 3 pages in-4°.
