AISNE. SAINT QUENTIN June 28, 1841. Letter from L. CLERGET, addressed to his brother CLERGET Graveur, rue des Bernardines in Paris. He gives him some news. "...It's up to you to come and surprise me pleasantly. July brings us the Société Académique de Saint Quentin exhibition. I had so little time when I wrote my letter to my father that I gave him very few details of my marriage plans. I want to know what he thinks and what he advises me to do ... one thing that stops me is money. Without money, you can't do anything. In short, if I had 100 écus in front of me, it would be a done deal... On June 1st I went to a wedding of one of my future cousins in ORIGNY-SAINTE-BENOITE (Aisne), 3 places from SAINT QUENTIN, with my brother-in-law, my father-in-law and my future. It's a quaint thing, a village wedding. The table was set at the front door, with 60 people lined up around a huge pot-au-feu. Soup, beef, cheese and beer - that was the dinner. Beans and salad was supper. Add to that a mass of peasants dancing and stepping on your feet with 15-kilo shoes...". 2 pages in-8°.
