Comte de GOYON Charles-Marie-Augustin (Nantes 1803 - 1870) Major General, Aide de Camp to the Emperor, Senator - Autograph letter signed "Le Général Comte de GOYON, Aide de Camp de Mgr le Prince Président, Membre du Conseil Général des Côtes du Nord, written from SAINT-BRIEUC (Côtes-d'Armor) on August 27, 1852, to Comte de PERSIGNY Minister of the Interior. 3 pages in-4°: "An election is to be held in the Arrondissement of LOUDÉAC, ... My country, through its most influential inhabitants, has made it known to me that my candidacy would have the most assured success; Mr. Préfet, a serious, thoughtful man... has confirmed this opinion. Only he fears that the law may oppose my election, because of my position. ... in order for me to accept the candidacy offered to me, Mr. Préfet wisely thought that I should submit my position to you, and here it is: I have the honor and happiness of being Aide de Camp to His Imperial Highness the Prince President; I am a Brigadier General... Am I in this position a salaried employee of the State?... In my position, am I eligible or not? My name has the advantage of rallying all reasonable parties, which is due to the seniority of my family in this country. The memory my father left here, and my current position. I have also been offered, and am being urged to accept, the Presidency of the Breton Congress... Would you be good enough, Minister, to telegraph your decision, which I am asked to do every day?
