Paul Marie LENOIR (1843-1881) Japanese woman with fan Oil on canvas 33.5 x 26 cm Our painting has two inscriptions on the back: - This sketch was made in 1872 in Neuilly at Théophile Gautier's by the painter Lenoir, a pupil of Gérôme, and my schoolmate. It was my wife who posed this japonaise for him. Emile Bergerat - Lenoir died in Cairo April 1881 Emile Bergerat, French poet and playwright born in 1845, died in 1923.
